Lis of 14 Items Put Under Price Control For Christmas

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Fourteen items have been put under price control to mark Christmas on Dec 25, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"The five day price control is effective Dec 23. Imported lamb thigh is also put under price control," he told reporters here Friday.

The other items are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, imported turkey, local beef, boneless local mutton, imported bone and boneless mutton, Grade A, B and C chicken eggs, tomato and green bengal chilli.

Ismail said the maximum wholesale and retail price would be enforced in areas and districts nationwide involving 2,044 wholesale and 2,044 maximum retail price.

In Federal Territory, the control price for live chicken is RM6.10 per kg, standard chicken (RM7.20), super chicken (RM8.05), imported turkey (RM25), local beef (RM20), local mutton (RM30), imported mutton (RM20);

Imported boneless mutton (RM24), imported lamb thigh (RM24), Grade A eggs (RM0.36 each), Grade B (RM0.35), Grade C (RM0.34), tomato (RM5) and green bengal chilli (RM10).

Ismail said traders are compelled to sell the items not more than the maximum price and place pink price tags to differentiate them.

Those who flout the law can be fine up to RM15,000 or two years' jail under Price Control Act 1946, or compound up to RM7,500.

Companies can face maximum fine RM25,000 or compound up to RM12,500.
